THIRD CLASS PUPILS ARE CYCLISTS SUPREME! : The boys and girls of Third Class in Ballybrown National School have just finished a 6 week training course with the Cycling Safety School. The course instructor was John Clancy who has been providing the course to children in schools all over Munster. Every Wednesday, the boys and girls of Mr Hodnett’s class learnt the principles of good road behaviour as well as basic cycling skills. As soon as Mr Clancy arrived with his van, it was time to don the high visibility jackets and cycling helmets. Last Wednesday Mr Clancy paid a special visit to the school to present each boy and girl with a personal Cycling Safety certificate and a high visibility jacket. The soldiers visited as part of the commemoration of the Easter Rising in 1916. Company Sergeant Shanahan presented the school with a copy of the Proclamation and a Tricolour. The children had been studying the 1916 Rising as part of the preparations for the visit. The two soldiers answered a variety of questions on military life and on the National Flag. The visit concluded with a rendition by pupils of 4th., 5th. and 6th classes of ‘Amhrán na bhFiann’. All schools in the Republic will host such visits and all schools will raise the National Flag in March 2016. photo attached Corporal O’Reilly, Joe Lyons principal Ballybrown NS and Company Sergeant Shanahan
