STRICTLY COME DANCING

STRICTLY COME DANCING : All roads led to the South Court Hotel on Saturday night last where the Ballybrown GAA Club and the Ballybrown Camogie Club had a joint fundraising night on the tiles with their 2015 Strictly Come Dancing competition. For the past eight weeks the competitors had been rehearsing their respective moves and now the night of reckoning had arrived. Twenty six dancers in total took part broken up into eleven teams. Liam Aherne of Live 95 fame was the M.C.  and the Judges were Noreen Cusack, Nicola Quinn and Tom Ryan. David Dooley was on the mic in the green room to record the comments of the various teams. It was a very close fought contest and the winners by a whisker were Michael Byrnes and Elis Vahenomm dancing the Salsa. In second place were Paddy McCarthy and Phil Mann with the Quickstep/Jive while third spot went to a very youthful Frank Dooley, Jade Gillane, Alan Gavin and Olivia Roberts dancing freestyle. Without doubt it was a great nights entertainment and all the stars were locals who had put in tremendous time and effort over the past months rehearsing their respective dances. During the interval we were treated to more local talent with the Bennis school of Dancers, Ellie Smith, Cliodhna Hall, Roisin Musgrave and Blaithin Musgrave. John McCarthy brought the house to its feet as usual and Emma Kate Quinn and Oran Curran who came second in the All Ireland Community Games Group Singing Section closed the interval. We were also treated to a great set dancing segment by the Ballybrown set dancers. Michael Byrnes on accepting the first place prize stated that he was accepting it on behalf of all the twenty six dancers who had taken part and put their reputations on the line. Marguerite Quinn thanked everyone who had helped in any way to make the night the great success it was,the sponsors the dancers, the choreographer Bridget Harte, the hard working committee and of course the people of Ballybrown and surrounding area who turned out in great numbersu on the night.
Mons.  Michael Lane stated he didn’t dance because he was not asked and Fr. Michael Cussen P.P. was delighted he wasn’t asked. Great credit to all involved for what turned out to be a brilliant night out and not a step out of place. Paddy McCarthy and John Hayes have been inundated with requests for guest appearances all over the place and the Judges are in very serious talks with Louis Walsh for to appear on the X -Factor.
Well done to the organizers and it just goes to show that there is great talent out there in Ballybrown just to be tapped into. Buala Bos.
